A gift with a name is personal, but sometimes a name simply isn't enough. Perhaps you want a figure of your child on a trophy, a unique wedding gift, an atlas inspired by a special group or a keepsake remembering a much-loved dog.
For ideas like these, ProtoPlot3D creates personalised 3D-printed gifts and custom-made projects in Switzerland. We develop figures, souvenirs and special products that reflect the people, events and stories behind them, rather than merely adding text to an existing object.
What is a personalised 3D-printed gift?
A personalised gift is designed for a particular person, occasion or memory. Sometimes it means adapting a colour, date or name. In other cases, we create a completely new 3D model.
Projects can range from birthday designs and wedding keepsakes to custom characters for businesses, museums and organisations. The result is something you wouldn't find ready-made on a shop shelf.

Unique wedding gifts that tell a story
A wedding is a wonderful opportunity for a personal design. Instead of a standard bride-and-groom figurine, we can create characters inspired by the couple. One example from our work is a penguin wedding couple: the groom wears a suit and bow tie, and the bride wears a dress, crown and carries a bouquet.
The small details matter most. Clothing, posture, flowers, accessories and expression turn two figures into a keepsake with genuine personality.
From a customer's idea to a printable 3D model
Custom work involves much more than the final print. Before a machine can start, the idea must become a digital design. Shapes are constructed or modified, proportions checked and details adapted so they work in the physical object, not only on the screen.
Sometimes a small adjustment is enough. Other projects require an entirely new figure. Several iterations may be needed before the size, proportions and appearance are right.

Birthday gifts featuring a name and age
Personalisation doesn't always mean an elaborate sculpture. One example is our rainbow for Margarida, with the number 7. Her name, age and a favourite design element were brought together for a specific birthday.
These pieces can make a lovely birthday surprise, family celebration gift or addition to another present. Something doesn't have to be large to feel special.
Can you create a figure from my own idea?
Yes. You don't need to supply a ready-to-print 3D file. A photograph, sketch, description or clear idea can be a starting point. We first want to understand what you'd like to create and why.
Should the figure resemble someone? Represent a beloved pet? Show a hobby? Be used at a wedding, birthday or prize-giving ceremony? Or perhaps become a product for a business? Once we understand the purpose, we can assess the most practical design and production method.

A sports trophy featuring your own child
A conventional trophy celebrates an achievement. A custom trophy featuring a miniature figure of the child also remembers the person and the moment.
For sports clubs, tournaments and special awards, the design can include a name, clothing, sporting pose and other meaningful details. That makes the trophy a personal keepsake rather than a standard prize.
Memorial figures of pets
Not every custom project marks a happy event. Some have a deeply personal meaning, such as a figure honouring a dog that has passed away.
Anyone who shared years with an animal remembers more than its coat colour. Its expression, posture and small individual features are what make it unforgettable. A custom memorial figure cannot replace a beloved pet, but it can make that memory tangible. We approach such requests with care, respect and close discussion with the customer.

Personalised gifts for groups and teams
Customisation can celebrate a whole group rather than one person: teams, clubs, classmates, work colleagues and friends. One possible idea is a custom world atlas for the best group in the world.
Its meaning doesn't come merely from the map itself, but from the shared experiences and details that only the group understands.
The prototype comes before the finished product
Small figures show why design work is essential. Eyes, horns, hands, feet and other details may look perfect at a large scale on a monitor but become too thin when the object measures just a few centimetres.
We therefore print prototypes, inspect proportions, size and details and change the digital model where necessary before the final piece is produced.

From a customer's idea to a museum product: Hörnli
An excellent example is our project for Sauriermuseum Bellach. We developed the character Hörnli specifically for the museum, both as an articulated Flexi figure and as a small keyring.
The concept became more than a single customised figure: it became a recognisable museum product that fits the venue and its story.
Custom solutions for companies, museums and clubs
For Hörnli, we also developed a matching keyring presentation stand. The figure, keyring and display together create a coordinated product family.
The same approach can be used for a company's mascot, a club logo, a unique character or a museum exhibit. It might become a figure, employee gift, visitor souvenir, promotional item or complete point-of-sale display.

How does a ProtoPlot3D custom order work?
- Tell us your idea: send photos, sketches or reference images and explain what you have in mind.
- Feasibility: we check what is technically and creatively possible.
- Digital design: depending on the project, we prepare a new model or adjust an existing one.
- Prototype: we test a first printed version and discuss refinements.
- Final production: once the design is agreed, we make the finished item.
Not every idea can be produced exactly as originally imagined. When a detail is impractical, we work together to find an alternative that preserves the idea while allowing reliable production.
What does a personalised 3D figure cost?
There is no single price for custom projects. Adding a name to an existing model requires much less work than creating a detailed figure from scratch. Design time, size, colours, number of prototypes and production quantity all affect the quotation.
We therefore review each request before recommending an approach.

Where are the personalised gifts made?
ProtoPlot3D designs and produces in Oetwil am See, canton Zurich, Switzerland. From digital development to the final print, we oversee our projects locally. Direct communication matters especially when a personal story is involved.
